Conference on High Quality Development of Philosophy and Social Sciences Journals held at NJU

On December 28, Conference on High Quality Development of Philosophy and Social Sciences Journals held at Nanjing University, with the theme of "the mission of journals to construct independent knowledge system of Chinese philosophy and social sciences." The conference launched three major actions: "Overseas Publication Programme of Highly Influential Achievements of Philosophy and Social Sciences Journals of Chinese Universities","The First Batch of Young Scholars' Friendly Journals" and "Nanjing Initiative on Quality Development of Philosophy and Social Sciences Journals".

The "Overseas Publication Programme", organized by NJU and the National Research Association of Philosophy and Social Sciences Journals of Chinese Universities, will select, translate and publish high-impact achievements of philosophy and social sciences journals of Chinese universities on a three-year cycle, to accelerate the construction of Chinese discourse and Chinese narrative system, comprehensively enhance the effectiveness of international communication, and expand the international humanistic exchanges and cooperation.

Nanjing University, in cooperation with key journals in philosophy and social sciences, launched the first batch of 191"Young Scholars Friendly Journals", helping to create a caring atmosphere and a high-level journal matrix for young scholars' scientific research and academic growth.

The "Nanjing Initiative" put forward four initiatives: firstly, to serve national strategies, focus on major issues of Chinese path to modernisation, and learn from all the outstanding achievements of human civilization, so as to make more achievements that blend the ancient and the modern, the Chinese and the Western; secondly, to make valid arguments by asking real questions, using real data, and coming up with real ideas; thirdly, to support the growth of young scholars, by creating a publication environment conducive to the emergence of young talents, and an academic ecology conducive to the innovation and creation of young talents; fourth, to integrate the academic research and think-tank research, and continuously improve the core competitiveness, dissemination, influence and credibility of academic journals.

Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Concil and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qu Futian, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress, Yao Yuan, Deputy Director of Arts and Culture, Publicity Department of the Central Committee of CPC, Chen Guohua, Deputy Director of Department of Social Sciences, Ministry of Education, Shang Qingfei, Party Secretary and President of Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, Wang Yueqing, Vice-president of Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, and Yang Zhong, Former Vice-chair of NJU CPC Council attended the opening ceremony. Chen Yunsong, Vice-chair of NJU CPC Council presided over the ceremony. Around 300 representatives from nearly 200 philosophy and social sciences journals across the country attended the conference.

8 Keynote speeches were given by Zhu Nianfeng, President of Hongqi Wengao of Qiushi Press, Liang Yangchun, President of Journal of Management World, Zhang Ding'an, President of Chinese Public Administration Press, Wei Changbao, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Social Sciences in China Press and Editor-in-Chief of China Social Science Review, Liu Shuguang, Chairman of the Board of the National Research Association of Philosophy and Social Sciences Journals of Chinese Universities and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Peking University (Philosophy and Social Sciences), Huang Wenyi, Editor-in Chief of China Legal Science Press, Li Yangmei, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Literature, History and Philosophy, Luo Xiangxi, Editor-in-Chief of China Review.

In 6 panels, participants had in-depth discussions on specific themes of Chinese culture and the mission of academic journals, quality development of academic journals, China's independent knowledge system and quality enhancement of academic journals, innovation in philosophy and social sciences and optimization of academic journal evaluation, cross-cultural communication and characteristic development of academic journals, Chinese path to modernisation and the digital transformation of academic journals.

Philosophy and Social Sciences journals all over the country gather together to answer the issues of the times with innovative actions by sharing insights on constructing a discourse system with Chinese characteristics, enhancing national cultural soft power and promoting the building of a strong nation and national rejuvenation through Chinese path to modernisation.

The conference is hosted by Nanjing University, organized by NJU Office of Publicity, Office of Humanities and Social Sciences, Institute for Chinese Social Sciences Research and Assessment, and co-organized by Journal of Nanjing University (Philosophy,Humanities and Social Sciences) and Nanjing University Press.
