Cahier d’un retour au pays natal suivi de Discours sur le colonialisme, the award-winning translation of Shi Xueying, is the first poetry work by Aimé Césaire, a poet and leader of La Négritude (African-French Campaign) from Martinique. It is the first time that his work has been translated into Chinese and published in the Chinese mainland, which will undoubtedly provide readers access to a wider variety of French literature.

Founded in 2009, the Fu Lei Translation and Publishing Award is one of the most important awards in Chinese translation field and is named in memory of the renowned translator Fu Lei. Since its establishment, the award has attracted wide attention from the whole society and contributed to promoting the translation and spread of French literature and academic works in China as well as enhancing the cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

In 2023, Associate Professor Zhang Lu from French Department won the 15th Fu Lei Translation and Publishing Award in the literature category for her translation of Alma. This year, the two prizes were awarded at a special time of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-France diplomatic ties. So far, many books translated by NJU graduates of the French Department have been shortlisted and ultimately won the Fu Lei Translation and Publishing Award, which reflects the fine tradition of NJU's French Department in translation practice, academic research and translator cultivation, as well as its contribution to the cultural exchanges between China and France.
