New book: Cultural Consciousness and the Sinicization of Social Sciences

Recently, the book Cultural Consciousness and the Sinicization of Social Sciences has been published by the Commercial Press. The author Zhou Xiaohong, University Distingushied Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences at Nanjing University (NJU) and Dean of the Institute of Contemporary China Studies of NJU, has compiled his academic work on the sinicization of social sciences over the past decade in the book. 

On April 13, 2024, the book launch took place at the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at NJU. Zhai Xuewei from the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at NJU presided over the event. Professor Chen Donghua, director of the Office of Humanities and Social Sciences of NJU, and Li Xia, deputy editor-in-chief of the Commercial Press, made speeches. 

Prior to the book launch, the Commercial Press, the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at NJU, and the Institute of Contemporary China Studies of NJU jointly held a seminar on “Publications in Social Sciences in the New Era.” Over 20 scholars from the Commercial Press, NJU, Nanjing Normal University and Central China Normal University engaged in discussions.

After the book launch, an academic symposium on “Social Theory and Local Experience” was held jointly by the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at NJU and the editorial board of Academic Monthly. Scholars from NJU, Shanghai University, Fudan University, Central China Normal University, Hangzhou Normal University, Zhejiang University, Soochow University, East China Normal University, Renmin University of China, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Southeast University, Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Social Sciences and other institutions engaged in discussions on the topic and provided constructive suggestions for the advancement of social theories that are both grounded in the domestic context and conducive to international dialogue.
