On December 1, 2024, Physics Today, the core journal of American Institute of Physics, published "Chien-Shiung Wu's trailblazing experiments in particle physics" co-authored by Chon-Fai Kam, Cheng-Ning Zhang and Da Hsuan-Feng. The editorial board of Physics Today chooses Chien-Shiung Wu’s photo as the cover of the journal's 2024 year-end issue. This initiative by Physics Today, the world's leading journal of physical sciences, highlights the profound impact that Chien-Shiung Wu has had on science.
Chien-Shiung Wu (1912-1997) was a particle physicist renowned for her meticulous experimental designs. She led the first tests that demonstrated photon entanglement and the violation of parity symmetry in weak interactions. She was born in Liuhe Town of Taicang City, Jiangsu Province on May 31 of 1912. She graduated from National Central University, the predecessor of Nanjing University in 1934 and received PhD from the Department of Physics, UC Berkeley in 1940. She was a recipient of the National Medal of Science of the United States of America, a member of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and held honorary doctorate from Nanjing University, Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China.
