Tan Tieniu receives 2024 IEEE Biometrics Council Leadership Award

Recently, Tan Tieniu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor, Nanjing University, was honored the 2024 IEEE Biometrics Council Leadership Award.

Academician Tan Tieniu's research interests include image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition and other related topics in artificial intelligence. He has authored or co-authored (co-edited) more than 10 monographs or books, and has published more than 600 research papers in mainstream refereed journals and conferences. He holds more than 100 granted patents. He has received many awards for his scientific achievements, including several national scientific and technological awards, as well as the King-Sun Fu Prize, which is the most prestigious award from the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR). He is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the advancement of science in developing countries, an International Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng) in the U.K., and a Corresponding Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He is also a Fellow of IEEE and IAPR.

The IEEE Biometrics Council Leadership Award was first presented in 2016. It is designed to honor outstanding leadership in the field of biometrics. Academician Tan Tieniu is the fifth recipient of the award. It is the first time the award has been given to a scholar from outside the United States since its was first presented.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world's largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. The IEEE Biometrics Council is a professional organization dedicated to advancing the science and technology of biometrics. It aims to promote research, development, and education in biometrics, as well as to provide a forum for the exchange of information among professionals from academia, industry, and government agencies.
