Tan Tieniu visits Singapore to jointly promote research and innovation

On November 27, Tan Tieniu, Chair of the university CPC Council and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, led a delegation to National University of Singapore (NUS), and exchanged with Tan Eng Chye, President of NUS and Liu Bin, Deputy President (Research and Technology) of NUS. Tan said that NJU hopes to deepen cooperation with NUS and jointly enhance the level and international influence of higher education in Asia and contribute to the development of higher education in the world. Tan Eng Chye extended a warm welcome to NJU delegation and fully affirmed the cooperation achievements by the two universities. Liu Bin, alumna of NJU and Deputy President (Research and Technology) of NUS, anticipated that further cooperation could be carried out with NJU in the fields of healthcare, energy and sustainable development, and artificial intelligence for more notable achievements. In the future, the two sides plan to strenghthen cooperation through joint workshops and joint seed funds. Later the day, NJU delegation visited the Institute for Health Innovation & Technology (iHealthtech), the Center for Advanced 2D Materials (CA2DM) and the NUS Artificial Intelligence Institute (NAII).

Meeting at NUS

In the afternoon of November 27, Tan Tieniu led the delegation to the National Research Foundation, Singapore (NRF), and met with John Lim, CEO of NRF, and Subodh Mhaisalkar, Vice President of NRF. Tan noted that the two countries are building an all-encompassing, high-quality, forward-looking partnership, which provides new opportunities and impetus for science and education cooperation. He hoped that NRF and NJU could work together to promote cooperation between the industry, academia and research institutes. Mhaisalkar introduced the project between NRF and the Center for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE), and expected to improve the comprehensive strength of both sides through close exchanges. After the meeting, NJU delegation visited the SJTU Asia-Pacific Graduate Institute Ltd (SJTU-APGI ). Peng Yinghong, Dean of SJTU-APGI, gave a detailed introduction of the Institute's history and the achievements in research projects such as NRF-CREATE. Tan highly recognized SJTU-APGI's fruitful achievements and its advanced experience in promoting education internationalization and cooperative research, hoping that the two sides can strengthen cooperation in related fields.

NJU delegation at SJTU Asia-Pacific Graduate Institute Ltd.

On the same day, Tan Tieniu led NJU delegation to meet with Joseph Sung, Senior Vice President (Health and Life Sciences) of Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Luke Ong, Vice President (AI & Digital Economy) of NTU, and Lee Pooi See, Vice President (International Engagement) of NTU. On November 28, NJU delegation met with Louis Phee, Vice President (Innovation & Entrepreneurship) of NTU. Phee spoke highly of NJU's high-quality development and highlighted that the visit of the delegation will deepen mutual exchanges and cooperation. Tan introduced NJU's latest progress in international cooperation and innovation in scientific research, anticipating further practical cooperation to enhance the global influence of both universities in education. The two sides discussed the prospects of cooperation in the fields such as artificial intelligence and climate change, and reached consensus on various aspects. After the meeting, NJU delegation visited the NTU-UBC Research Centre of Excellence in Active Living for the Elderly (LILY), the Asian School of the Environment (ASE) and the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) .

During his visit, Tan Tieniu held cordial talks with representatives of NJU alumni in Singapore. Tan expressed gratitude to them for their longstanding support and introduced the latest achievements and future plans of NJU. He encouraged the alumni to make greater contributions to the alma mater and the wider society.
