From December 1 to 3, Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), attended the inaugural Global University Presidents & Leaders Summit 2024 and delivered a keynote speech.
The summit was organized by the Hong Kong Association for External Friendship. John Lee Ka-chiu, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Zheng Yanxiong, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, made congratulatory speeches at the opening ceremony. Wu Yan, Vice Minister of Education, addressed the event via video. Over 600 guest representatives from Chinese and overseas universities attended the event and shared their insights into topics including AI, university governance and the future of education.
During the summit, Tan met with Priscilla Leung Mei-fun, President of the Hong Kong Association for External Friendship, Zhang Xiang, President of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), Nancy Y. IP, President of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Jin-Guang Teng, President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and other prominent participants. Together, they explored how higher education can meet the opportunities and challenges of the new era. Tan also gave an interview to Hong Kong Ta Kung Pao on the topic of globalization of knowledge.
