NJU wins two Gold Medals in iGEM

Recently, the final of the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM) was held in Paris, France, with 438 teams from over 50 countries and regions participating in the event. The two teams from the School of Life Sciences, Nanjing University, each won a gold medal at the Competition. Team NJU-China was awarded a gold medal and the "Best Software & AI Project"; and the other team Nanjing-China won a gold medal and nominations in "Best Space Project" and "Best New Composite Part".

Nanjing-China has established a human-plant-microbe symbiotic system that achieves water purification, phosphorus recycling, and efficient energy utilization. NJU China has utilized a knowledge graph as the foundational database architecture and leveraged a large language model to facilitate processes such as raw data cleaning, database retrieval, and natural language dialogue with users. And the team has developed Prometheus, a professional-grade, novice-friendly synthetic biology language model.

The School of Life Sciences, Nanjing University, has been an active participant in the iGEM for years. As a pioneer in the new field of artificial intelligence biology globally, the School has established the Pilot Class of Artificial Intelligence Biology. Within the majors of biological sciences and mathematics & applied mathematics in the Strengthening Foundation Plan, the School aims to cultivate top-tier innovative talents in artificial intelligence biology with a deep integration of biological sciences, mathematics, and AI technology.
