On November 28, the inauguration ceremony of the Research Center for the Inheritance and Development of Kunqu Opera was held at Nanjing University Xianlin Campus. At the ceremongy, Chen Yunsong, Vice Chair of the University CPC Council, presented Pai Hsien-yung with a certificate of appointment as Distinguished Visiting Professor. Chen and Pai jointly unveiled the plaque of the Center.
This newly established center is committed to further excavating the artistic value of Kunqu Opera through academic research, artistic practice and cultural exchanges. With these efforts, the center aims to cultivate a new generation of artists and scholars, explore the new expression and development of Kunqu Opera in modern society, and promote its international dissemination, thus contributing to the innovative inheritance and development of this national art treasure in the new era.

During its century-long tradition in theater studies, Nanjing University has nurtured countless scholars and practitioners of Kunqu Opera. Initiatives such as Kunqu-focused courses, the Kunqu Study Society, and international symposia have advanced the global appreciation of this art form. This year's events, coinciding with the 110th anniversary of Nanjing University's School of Liberal Arts, mark a significant milestone in the university's efforts to preserve and promote traditional Chinese culture. Through its collaboration with Mr. Pai and its ongoing dedication to Kunqu Opera, Nanjing University continues to shine as a leading force in safeguarding and revitalizing this treasured art form.
