On November 7, renowned sociologist and Princeton University professor Xie Yu, member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS) joined NJU as Distinguished Visiting Professor. Tan Tieniu, Chair of the University CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), met with Prof. Xie Yu at NJU Xianlin Campus.
Tan Tieniu extended a warm welcome to Prof. Xie. He pointed out that Prof. Xie's research work is highly compatible with the development goals of Nanjing University and hoped that Prof. Xie would enhance in-depth collaboration and exchange with NJU experts across disciplines to achieve new breakthroughs in sociology at NJU.
Prof. Xie stated that the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences has great potential for development. He would continue to promote empirical research at Nanjing University, help the university to train young talents, and promote Chinese social sciences to the international stage.
At the investiture ceremony, Chen Yunsong, Vice Chair of the University CPC Council, hoped that Professor Xie's arrival can bring new vitality into NJU's development. Wang Zhenlin, Vice President of Nanjing University, presented Prof. Xie with the Certificate of Appointment as Distinguished Visiting Professor and a university badge. Wang Jianfu, Chair of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences CPC Council, presided over the ceremony. Wu Yuxiao, Dean of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, read the University's official decision on Professor Xie's appointment.
Prof. Xie held a discussion with faculty and student representatives from the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
