Chinese-style garden "Parc Illumination" opens at the Louvre-Lens, France

On July 5, 2024,  Parc Illumination or Ming Yuan&苍产蝉辫;(明苑),&苍产蝉辫;a Chinese-style garden, opened at the Louvre-Lens, France. Tan Zhemin, President of NJU, and his delegation attended the opening ceremony. The project is a joint effort between Nanjing University and the Université D'Artois in France for more than ten years. Designed by Leng Tian, a professor at  NJU School of Architecture and Urban Planning, the project marks the first large-scale art installation designed and built by a Chinese architect in France. It is a new symbol of cultural exchange between China and France.

The "Parc Illumination" project of the Louvre-Lens

In his remarks, Tan Zhemin highlighted that as one of the most active Chinese universities in international exchanges and cooperation, NJU has in-depth cooperation with French universities, especially the Université D'Artois. The two universities has a profound friendship for more than twenty years, and jointly established a Confucius Institute for promoting cross-cultural exchanges between China and France. The "Parc Illumination" project presents the essense of Chinese gardens and culture in the west. He hoped that the "Parc Illumination" can become a bridge connecting Chinese and French people.

Pasquale Mammone, President of the University of D'Artois emphasized in his speech the cross-cultural significance of the "Parc Illumination." He hoped that the friendship between Chinese and French people., the cooperation between the two universities, and the "Parc Illumination" will last forever.

The openning ceremony was hosted by Rémi Maillard, the administrative director of the Louvre-Lens. He highly praised the cooperation between the Chinese and French teams.
