On April 2, 2024, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced the list of 24 young scientists selected for the 2024 NASA Hubble Fellowship Program(NHFP). Shangjia Zhang , an undergraduate alumnus from the School of Astronomy and Space Science at Nanjing University, was presented with "The Sagan Fellow."

Shangjia Zhang, a 2014 undergraduate alumnus at the School of Astronomy and Space Science at NJU, graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Currently, he is completing his doctorate at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. After winning "The Sagan Fellow," he will be heading to Columbia University in New York to conduct research utilizing radiation hydrodynamics simulations to study the impact of thermodynamic properties on the structure and dynamics of protoplanetary disks, in order to deepen the understanding of currently observed protoplanetary disk structures and subsequently uncover more young planets.

The NHFP is the most prestigious postdoctoral honor in the American astronomical academia. The winners can freely choose a cooperative team to engage in postdoctoral research in the United States and NASA will provide full salary and research funding.
