From June 24 to 26, the 15th International Ibsen Conference was held at Nanjing University. This year's conference witnessed many famous scholars with high academic or arts achievements. Gathered in Nanjing University, they had lively discussions and exchanges on topics such as adaptations of Ibsen's works, cross-cultural exchanges, and theatrical performance. During the conference, some of the guests shared their views and gains with us.
He Chengzhou, dean of the School of Arts of Nanjing University, talked about Ibsen's influence on writers in China and around the world. He also referred to various adaptions of his favourite character Peer Gynt.
Giuliano D' Amico, director of Center of Ibsen Studies at the University of Oslo, explained his image of Ibsen and his idea of how to introduce Ibsen's work to Chinese people.
President of the International lbsen Committee Lisbeth P. W?rp said that China has a big advantage in introducing Ibsen's work for young people had known Ibsen in school, while the situation is not the same in Norway itself.
Wu Xiaojiang, National Class One Director of National Theatre of China, shared ideas about the obstacles when it comes to rehearsing Ibsen's play. He also mentioned that Ibsen helps him and the audience to see the world from a female perspective.
At a series of seminars during the first two days, scholars from home and abroad shared their studies and understanding under the topic of “the Intermedial Ibsen”. On the final day of the conference, some topic forums were held in the morning and two sessions of Artists in Dialogue were conducted in the afternoon. Among the sessions, five guest speakers, including scholars and directors, shared their stories with Ibsen' work and communicate with the audience. Professor He Chengzhou and Professor Giuliano D'Amico conducted the closing ceremony of this year's conference. Afterwards, the International Ibsen Committee Meeting was held.
